How These 3 Entrepreneurs Changed Their lives Through YouTube

Over the last few years, YouTube has changed the game for countless aspiring musicians, bloggers, entrepreneurs, actors, comedians and more. Providing a platform for advertising your products or skills for millions of people all around the world to view creates a powerful tool for young dreamers trying to get their names out there.

Although it started mostly with musicians, including Justin Bieber, it has since become popular for entrepreneurs just starting out- and many of them have found great success thanks to this social network. Ordinary people start by simply posting videos online of themselves doing what they love to do, such as Jenna Marbles, who now has over 13 million subscribers doing comedic skits and humorous rants.

Thanks to YouTube, thousands of young people have gotten attention they never would have been able to get before. For three entrepreneurs in particular, YouTube has completely transformed their lives in a way they never thought possible.

The first, Rob Chapman, transformed his life from a struggling musician to a UK rock star through his YouTube channel. His channel has 198,000 subscribers and is growing at a rate of 10,000 a month and his videos receive millions of views. In addition to his online success, the once unheard of musician sings and plays his guitar for packed venues, endorses products, and owns his own guitar company. Often when enough YouTube success has been achieved, it is not longer just about the attention. Chapman says if he wanted to he could live off of what he earns from his YouTube career. When speaking about his success, Chapman says he considers himself just “a dude who plays guitar in his flat” and had no idea that it could be like this, but couldn’t be happier. On advice for aspiring YouTube stars he says the title, description, and tags are extremely important in getting people to notice you.
The second, Leonardo Pereznieto, was also a struggling artists before creating his YouTube channel. In 2009 the full time artist was struggling to make ends meet. Despite receiving international awards and showing his work throughout Europe and the United States, times were tough for the 45 year old artist. So he created a YouTube channel in hopes of getting more views of his artwork. He found this method to be relatively unsuccessful so then Pereznieto decided to record himself demonstrating how to properly sketchy and see if that generated any responses- and it did. He then began giving art lessons via YouTube and the views were piling up. By 2013, his YouTube channel, called Fine Art-Tips, was enough to live off of. Now with 763,000 subscribers and 2 million monthly visits, Pereznieto lead a life free from financial worries, thanks to ad revenue.

Betty Givan began her YouTube career with the mission of keeping traditional southern cooking alive. In January 2009 she created a channel, called Betty’s Kitchen, featuring recipe demonstrations and even trips to local grocery stores. Since then her videos have generated over 36 million views and more than 110,000 channel subscribers! Her online popularity even allowed her to create two mobile apps and publish two successful cookbooks. Givan said when she first started making the videos she did not think of it as a business endeavor, but rather a fun way to share her family recipes and keep her mother’s cooking alive. She says social media is the smartest way to grow viewers and it is always important to be consistent when trying to develop a following.

The pint-sized pair blew away the crowd at the Israeli Salsa Congress with their incredible salsa moves. The routine wasn’t just impressive for small children, but for even an adult dancer, which makes it all the more awesome.

PSY Trades in Gangnam Style for Hip Hop

Psy, who we all know and love for his intentional sensation known as “Gangnam Style” has made a surprising change with his new song, “Hangover”.

The track is hip hop in its nature and-  another surprise-features Snoop Dogg. Whether it is out of curiosity or just love for the song, the music video’s popularity is clear with a whopping 78 million views in two weeks of being released on YouTube. After watching the video, I concluded that despite adopting a new sound, Psy has not abandoned the eccentric style and dance moves that we have come to expect. The video takes us on a night of Psy and Snoop Dogg hitting the town and partying, followed by the painful next morning that comes with it. If your favorite part about “Gangnam Style” was the music video, then you won’t be disappointed with this new single.

Initially, Psy and Snoop Dogg seem like an odd match but after watching the video, the two different styles come together in a way that is much more entertaining than odd. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Psy said that he and Snoop Dogg wrote the song through online collaboration before meeting up in Seoul and filming the music video in just 18 hours- without breaks. He adds that to get Snoop Dogg on board he simply made a phone call and after telling Snoop Dogg the title was “Hangover”, he agreed to do it on the spot.

One can’t help but wonder if the K-pop star’s new style will be a hit or miss after the 2 billion views received for Gangnam Style and 700 million for Gentleman. What do you think? Do you like Psy’s dabble into the world of hip hop or prefer his original K-pop style?

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake Crack Us Up with their “History of Rap” Performance

Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’ videos are blowing up YouTube left and right, and his recent video with Justin Timberlake, “The History of Rap”, is no exception. Posted only a week ago, the video has already received over 6 million views- and counting. After watching the video I can understand why! The two are hilarious together as they spontaneously break into a coordinated dance and rap featuring songs from Notorious B.I.G’s ‘Big Poppa’ to the theme song of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And did I mention how perfect Justin Timberlake is? The guy can act, sing, dance, AND he's hilarious? Where’s my engagement ring…?

How K-pop Group Girls' Generation Beat Out Icons Like Miley Cyrus at YouTube's First Music Awards

Whether it is for her powerful vocals or questionable choice of attire (or lack there of), Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" seems like the most popular thing going in cyber space at the moment, but last night's results at YouTube's first award show proved otherwise!

Awards such as Eminem's Artist of the Year came as no surprise as the audience clapped loudly and showed their support, but when "Video of the Year" was given to Girls' Generation, many audience members reacted with surprise or even confusion.

This all-girls, K-pop group may not be as widespread in the U.S. as Justin Bieber or Lady GaGa, but in Asia it's a whole different story.

Often referred to as the Asian version of Spice Girls, this talented group sings, raps, has pop-like beats, and coordinated dance moves- a combination that has sent K-pop fans running wild. Fan hysteria has only increased since the release of their music video "I Got a Boy", which was the video nominated for YouTube's award ceremony.

In addition to their catchy lyrics and admirable dance moves, the nine-member group's style and glamor has also caught attention. Always featuring coordinated and stylish outfits, the girls are beginning to become fashion icons as well as pop icons.

Although the wild fire of Girls' Generation hasn't quite spread to the United States, we can only expect its rapid arrival after winning "Video of the Year" at YouTube's first music awards. So get ready to start seeing a lot of these nine talented girls as they make their way overseas!
